Jules Fincham
Cycle Wild Scotland is now into its
sixth successful year as the popularity of mountain biking continues to
grow worldwide. The driving force behind the company is Jules Fincham.
Jules, who is the director and
head tutor of Cycle Wild Scotland, is one of the
UK's top outdoor adventure coaches. A senior tutor with the Mountain Bike Leader Association
(formerly the Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Association - SMBLA), he has worked closely with the association
since its foundation and has been influential in its development.
During 12 years at Glenmore Lodge, Sportscotland's national centre, Jules was responsible for creating and developing their MTB syllabus and facilities. His period as head of MTB at Glenmore Lodge saw Jules
mastermind the design and build of the first purpose-built skills coaching
trail in the UK. Fittingly, the new facility was named the Jules Fincham
Trail.
In addition to training and assessing
mtb guides and instructors, Jules
regularly guides trips and runs MBLA courses abroad. His latest
venture is bike school scotland, based at Laggan's Wolftrax, where he is also the Head Coach of the Wolfpax MTB Club.
Jules is also a tutor for Cycling Scotland, a Scottish
Government initiative to encourage biking in all its forms,
including GO MTB, a new 5-level proficiency awards system for
mountain bikers.
With his experience of all aspects of coaching, management and development, Jules is also much in demand as an advisor on biking for public and private sector organisations.
Through his lifelong passion with adventure sports and the wild places of
the world, Jules has developed his coaching repertoire to include national and international coaching qualifications in mountaineering, rock climbing, skiing and paddlesports.
Lisa Fuchs
Lisa is the
desk jockey and occasional caterer of the business but as an Aviemore
white settler (having lived here a mere 47 years) there's not much she
can't advise you about locally and nationally. As long as things
don't get too technical she should be able to help you with any
questions or concerns you might have re the MBLA scheme. So that
MA in Cultural History from Aberdeen University has been invaluable!
